As I was searching the Internet for creative things the other week, I came across something called Ladies Drawing Night. A night where you gather your girlfriends, grab some drinks and snacks, dump a whole bunch of art supplies in the middle and just make art!
Well that seemed like a great idea. So I proposed it to my friends and we met up last night.
Let me tell you, I was not prepared for the amount of fun, laughter and creativity that emerged.
Starting out you could tell there were fears floating around. What if what I make looks ugly? The person beside me is going to make something way more gorgeous. That sort of thing. But I really didn't want to make the night about that. I wanted everyone to feel open and safe to make ugly art!
So we warmed up with blind countour finger painting with the left hand. Yup, you read that right. We took out the finger paints, and with our left hand drew the person opposite us, without looking at the page. It was hilarious! Pretty soon people didn't care if their drawing was ugly or not. The uglier the better!
After that everyone seemed to settle in to whatever creative thing they felt like doing a lot easier.
The theme of the night was MYTHICAL CREATURES so I decided to draw some derpy unicorns. I used gouache paint, my fountain pen and lotsssss of sparkles. I honestly had a blast!
But probably the most fun part for me was having these incredible females making things without fear. Trying things out, making mistakes and getting to know eachother. It was a huge success and I hope to make this a regular thing.
